Office of Minority Student Services
Educational and Professional Diversity
The goals of the Max M. Fisher College of Business Office of Minority Student Services are to provide quality academic advising, counseling, scholarships, financial aid (need based), and tutoring services which meet the needs of minority undergraduate and graduate students enrolled or intending to enroll in the college. In addition, the office provides services and support internally to campus departments and organizations and externally to corporations, companies, and agencies which seek to help minority students succeed academically, financially, and socially.
Recent highlights:
Ernst & Young, LLP has made a $75,000 commitment over five years to provide scholarships and operational support to the Office of Minority Student Services (OMSS) at the Fisher College of Business. The funds will be used to award a scholarship to a student in honor of David Harrison, director of the OMSS. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community, and the student’s role in promoting inclusiveness within Fisher College. Additionally, four scholarships will be awarded to ethnically diverse students who are seeking opportunities in accounting and/or finance and have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership. Ernst & Young will also provide support for the Annual Diversity Award program, which recognizes corporations and individuals who are furthering diversity goals.
Key Foundation will contribute $225,000 over three years to provide funds for the Key Foundation and Fisher College of Business Minority MBA Case Competition. This new commitment builds upon Fisher College’s relationship with Key Foundation, as evidenced by the success of the previous two annual minority case competitions organized on the college’s campus. The competition will allow students to hone their communications and team-building skills while learning from executives who will serve as judges and moderators. The competitions will take place in Cleveland and will involve 12 to 16 teams each year. Key Foundation along with the Fisher College of Business Office of Minority Student Services supervises the selection of a contemporary and never-before-used case topic addressing business issues with diversity implications at either a national or international level. The 5th Key Foundation case competition was held on February 27 - Mar 1, 2009 in Cleveland, Ohio.
